The Story Bridge of Brisbane
The Story bridge is a bridge spanning the Brisbane river which connects Fortitude Valley and Kangaroo Point. This was designed by John Bradfield and was named after the prominent Queensland public servant, John Douglas Story or J.D. Story as he is famously known.
This bridge was intentionally built to alleviate congestion on Victoria Bridge and to divert traffic away from the Brisbane central business district. The Story Bridge features prominently in the annual Riverfire display and is illuminated at night. Bridge climbs began in 2005 and are becoming a major tourist attraction.
